Release status and answers to common questions about OtoShelf.

OtoShelf is still in pre-release development

Google Drive is currently the only supported file source. Place supported audio or video files in Google Drive first; the internal development build then verifies read-only browsing, folder and individual import, playback, explicit offline save, video-to-audio-only conversion, artwork and metadata refresh, duplicate-save prevention, and local deletion without changing Drive originals. Live account, real-media, and physical-device checks are reported complete for the tested device; restricted-scope, security, signed-release, and publication checks remain open. Build 11 is available only for internal TestFlight testing; there is no public App Store release or general TestFlight availability, and Google OAuth approval is not implied.

Frequently asked questions

These answers describe the planned release and may change before availability.

Does OtoShelf support sources other than Google Drive?

No. Google Drive is currently the only supported file source, so place your supported audio or video files there before connecting OtoShelf. OtoShelf uses read-only Drive access and lets you choose the folders or individual files to read, play, or save. Direct import from iOS Files, iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, NAS, or other sources is not supported.

Will OtoShelf really have no subscription?

Our launch plan is a paid, one-time purchase with no monthly fees, ads, subscriptions, or in-app purchases. Final pricing, regions, and purchase conditions will appear on the App Store.

Do rights in my music transfer to OtoShelf?

No. OtoShelf does not ask you to transfer rights or licenses you hold in your music. Use only music that you own or are properly licensed to use.

Can OtoShelf delete saved music on its own?

OtoShelf is designed not to remove completed offline files merely to reclaim space. App removal, device failure or reset, and iOS behavior can still cause local data loss, so keep important originals backed up separately.

Will files in Google Drive ever be modified?

No. OtoShelf is designed to request read-only permission and never create, upload, update, move, rename, copy, delete, or change permissions for Drive files or metadata. Deleting local data does not delete the Drive original.

Can I add and download an album by folder?

The internal development build can select a folder, review its supported audio and video, preserve nested hierarchy, add it as one album, and save it together for offline listening. It also supports individual-track import. Simply viewing a folder does not add or download it; the tested physical-device live My Drive and real-media flow is reported complete, while its sanitized release evidence remains open.

Are streamed tracks saved automatically?

Not by default. Only tracks saved manually—or played after you explicitly choose an auto-save preference—are included. Planned choices are Off, Wi-Fi Only, and Always Save.

How are video files handled?

Playback uses the audio portion only. Offline processing may temporarily require the complete video on device, but the finished persistent file contains only verified audio. Temporary video is deleted after completion, cancellation, or failure, with dedicated-area cleanup at the next launch if a crash interrupts removal.

Does deleting an offline track delete the Drive original?

No. The deletion targets only data inside OtoShelf’s app container. The app is designed not to send a Drive modification request during local deletion.

Does disconnecting Google Drive remove local tracks?

No, not automatically. Disconnecting removes OtoShelf’s local authentication credentials; deleting the library or offline audio is a separate choice. You can revoke Google-side permission in your Google Account settings.

What local data can I delete?

The planned release supports deleting individual offline tracks, all offline tracks, cache, or an account’s local library and saved data. These actions affect only OtoShelf’s dedicated storage, never the Drive originals.

Will shuffle and repeat be available?

The internal development build includes shuffle for an album or current track set, plus repeat off, repeat all, and repeat one. Playback is implemented and verified in development and Simulator flows, and the tested physical-device audio, background playback, and codec checks are reported complete. Signed-release evidence remains before release.

When will OtoShelf launch, and what will it cost?

Price, sales regions, and release date have not been finalized. Confirmed details will be published here and on the App Store.
